Q: How do you fix a clock radio?

A: What can't vinyl tape fix?

Fix it with tape!

The button board had been acting flaky for awhile, and often to set the clock I'd just open it up and short the accumulator pin to adjust the time. It turned out that the material between the buttons and the board itself had dried out over the years, thus squishing instead of depressing as expected. I tore it out and used some tape in its place.

(to Antony: this is the same one I modified earlier. Why buy a new clock if I can just fix up what I have?)

Question: Is Lloyd's even still around?

They scaled back their production in the 1980s, when the big-name retailers like Sears started selling their own clock radios. They're still around but they're primarily about amateur radio now, no more consumer stuff.

Don, you missed out the point. Why bother fixing? A clock radio is damn cheap.

And another thing I've got to comment on: You took that picture, imported it, wrote the blog post, and posted that in around 3 minutes? Well, since the alarm clocks chip and the server's clock aren't synced, it was probably more like 5 to 10 minutes.

Antony, you missed the point. Why bother spending money? A clock radio is damn easy to fix up.

Dave, the alarm clock is about 11 minutes ahead of the server clock, so I guess that's eight minutes.

I am surprised to see it has a 24 hour display?

Well, that was also my doing. The clock chip had a 24-hour capability but the clock itself didn't have any way to switch it on, so now there's just an extra piece of wire in there to do it for me.

I loaned my paper shredder to a friend and it has come back damaged, due, I think, to overloading and abuse.
I wish I was confident enough to try a repair myself. I will open it up for a look, but I will probably buy another one.
Lending stuff is fraught with danger...LOL!!

The nice thing about all-mechanical devices like paper shredders is that there isn't much that can go wrong.

One of the last jobs I had, I was tasked with shredding a few file cabinets worth of old paper files. It took a few days and the three paper shredders we had would frequently overheat. Some time in I found that the individual shreds would sometimes jam between the rotors, but the motor was powerful enough to keep spinning at some capacity anyway. Eventually, though, they would build up and the thing would seize completely. They were pretty easy to get out with canned air, so if that turns out to be the problem, it may be easy to fix. Good luck!

For the reference, I did not borrow Rev. Dr. Wu Yi's paper shredder. In other words, I did not damage it.

No need to be so defensive "dark skinned one"!! I never even suggested it was you, in fact it was the Eastgardens idiot!
Just because you broke my PC when I was away one time, doesn't mean I am bitter!

I did not break your PC. Your PC was just happen to disfunction in nature's course at the time I was there.

Antony, I think you mean "malfunction", and nature had nothing to do with it. I left a perfectly robust, well oiled machine, and came back to find it deceased!! What should I think?

It was nowhere near "robust", it still "worked" would be the best description I can think of.

Excuse me DON for mucking up your thread BUT:

"It was nowhere near "robust", it still "worked" would be the best description I can think of. "

So that was why I had to replace the HDD? And lose all my data? Please, no more about this on DON'S forum.
