Political statements

I found some particularly well-placed graffiti on the way home today – well enough that I walked back later on to take a photo of it.

I’ll bet that it will be quite some time before Uncle Sam resolves the politics of removing the graffiti.

I've seen graffiti on one billboard stay on it for a couple of months one time, and oh.. there was some pretty nasty stuff on it.

What does the billboard mean? The graffiti is not self explanatory. Interesting little building it is attached upon.

The way I picked it up, the message was originally supposed to be one of those US Government-sponsored patriotic billboards telling people to put their faith in the country ("betting" on it). Then somebody came and tagged it, with the graffiti part saying that "betting" on the United States would lose you all of your poker chips at a casino.

That building was once the first Howard Johnson's restaurant. It's been boarded up for quite some time and has been changing hands every five years.

I freakin' love Ho Jo's, man! Too bad the only one around here had to be renamed.

The last Howard Johnson's restaurant around here closed while I was still in elementary school, but that was too early for me to remember ever eating there.

Interestingly enough, the place I attended elementary school was literally one building over from the former Howard Johnson's factory. Unlike the restaurant, the factory was never boarded up, but instead it sat abandoned until Eastern Nazarene College bought it just a few years ago and converted it to classroom space. Up until then, you could still see the old '40s-style Howard Johnson's logo painted (and well-faded) on the bricks.

Have a nice easter holiday DON. I don't know about "beautiful Boston", but we get a 4 day weekend from good Friday thru to Monday. I shall be in Thailand from 11th April for 30 days, so I may not appear often to comment...LOL!

Have a nice Easter holiday, Rev. Dr. Here in the States we don't typically get Good Friday and Easter Monday off as holidays, but I have Good Friday off from school anyway, For the past three years, I've done a 10K walk through Dorchester and South Boston to raise money for local churches on Good Friday.
