The Watchmen

People have recently been telling me that I seem to share a great deal in common with the personality of Rorschach – and I’m beginning to agree with them.

I got to see The Watchmen today. Despite hearing generally mixed reviews tending to fall towards the lower side of the five-star critic spectrum, I actually would say that the film overall was pretty good. I’ve heard that the main problem that people had with the film adaptation was that it failed to deviate far enough from the graphic novel to be creative rather than just a narrated comic book – something I can’t comment on, as I’ve never actually read the graphic novel.

On the other hand, what I did find slightly off-putting were the hundred-and-seven sex scenes and Dr. Manhattan’s perpetual nudity, which I had been told to expect from several other friends that had seen the film…

Is this an animation thing or a real film?

I'll watch it when it comes out on DVD.

It's a real film, but I'll admit they used way too much CGI to make it an actual "real film".

So you counted the number of sex scenes in the movie?

No, that was intended to be a joke.

Sex scenes? Does it have car chases and drug usage? I'll go out and watch it right now if it has that.

My friend tells me that the scene count is five, though Dr. Manhattan's, uh, parts, are showing for pretty much the entire movie.

I don't know about drug usage, but it did have car chases.. As does pretty much any action movie today.

How was the American popcorn?

The poor Antony has not been to the cinemas for ages.

I didn't eat or drink anything at the cinema, actually.

Antony, you have a 52" HDTV and a Blu-ray player if you want to watch a movie. If I want to watch a movie, I would have to go buy it on DVD, then watch it on a 17" screen.

I used to watch DVD's on a rear projection 52" HDTV, and then it broke. And the back up TV (A 27" CRT) looked better than the "HDTV".

I'm not fond of rear projection TV no matter how big. The picture seems thin, flat and colour-challenged to me.
The 27" CRT is a much better unit. Though I make do with a 42" Flat Panel HDTV, I still have a fondness for CRT.

The cinema has even bigger screen and surround sound!
