Snowlogger

What do you get when you cross a snowstorm, Web server, webcam, and an ironing board?

The Snowlogger

At the time of this writing, the storm hasn't started yet. The photos this thing is taking are available over here, updating every five minutes, or at least while it doesn't get too dark for the camera to see anything but it's not updating anymore since it's dark out.

That's kinda cool. I wonder what the cameras that could be "Google hacked" would be like.

If I'm not mistaken, Google uses HTTP referrer headers to find new pages. Any webcam feed could technically be "hackable" just by being online: even if it's never linked to anywhere, visiting Google or perhaps even a Google-hosted page might end up adding the feed to the index.

In my case, the camera's purposely online, though Google picking it up would probably have the same effect as the thing getting Slashdotted. Hosting from home does have its downsides. Either way, since the camera isn't remote-controllable or movable to begin with, people wouldn't be able to gain access to a live feed or point it at something else.

I know, but the one I found was cool. Making it move and zoom was pretty nice. Even though I felt like a script-kiddie.

How nice you guys have beautiful snow! Just in time for white Christmas. Even there's a Christmas song called "Let It Snow".

Snow? BEAUTIFUL!? Your out of your mind. It might look nice, but imagine driving in it (though I like the sound the wipers make). Or having to hear the damn plows.

Then again, I'd love to see Vista with a 233MHz processor.
